Professor Stuart Johnstone is a researcher and lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of Wollongong. After undergraduate studies and PhD at the University of Wollongong, and a post-doctoral role in the Department of Psychological Medicine at University of Sydney, Stuart started an academic appointment at the University of Wollongong in 1999. Stuart has won two UOW Vice-Chancellors Awards (Outstanding Achievement in Research Commercialisation, 2013; Award for Global Strategy, 2018) and received a 25 Years of Service Award in 2025.

Stuart has published over 130 research articles and this work has been cited over 13,500 times (Google Scholar), with h-indices of 61 (Google Scholar) and 49 (Scopus). Stuart's research interests include:

• Using brain electrical activity measures to understand psychological processes and disorders.
• Neurocognitive training to improve symptoms for children with ADHD.
• Neurocognitive assessment for children with ADHD.

Stuart has held a range of leadership and governance roles at the University of Wollongong, including: Deputy Head of School of Psychology - Teaching and Learning (2020-2023), Interim Head of School (Aug-Dec 2024), Deputy Academic Program Director - International (2017-2023), Academic Program Director - International (2012-2017), and has been a long-term member of the Teaching and Learning Committee (2001-2023).

Stuart has been Subject Co-ordinator and lecturer/tutor in the areas of Biological Psychology (1999-2020) and Psychophysiology (1999-present)., and has supervised 12 PhD students, 7 Clinical Masters students, and 53 Honours students to completion.
