BIO

I am an environmental geographer and transdisciplinary social scientist who has two main research interests.

For over 20 years my research has involved exploring the ways in which people prepare for and respond to climate variability and climate change. I have recently started a Future Fellowship project titled 'Unlocking community-wide adaptation to sea-level rise'. This 8-year project (2026-2033) explores how under-represented groups value the coast, how community-wide coastal values change over time in response to social and environmental proceses and how diverse values can be meaningfully accommodated in climate adaptation plans.

Alongside this work, I have undertaken research into the nature of collective action for invasive species management. I recently completed a DECRA project (2020-2025) titled 'Catalysing collective action for effective weed management'. This project involved interviews with over 100 people across south-east NSW, seeking to understand how community-led management of weeds evolves and gathering robust evidence of the benefits of collaborative approaches. Drawing on this work, I have written a book with CSIRO Publishing titled 'In the weeds: nurturing community through Landcare' (https://www.publishing.csiro.au/book/8218/).

Previously I have worked at the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
