BIO

Professor Marett Leiboff was appointed as an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the University of Wollongong at the end of 2020 on her retirement from full time academia in the School of Law at the University of Wollongong, having joined the Faculty of Law in 2008 as a Senior Lecturer before moving to her appointment as an Associate Professor, and finally as Professor on her retirement.

Marett is the founder of theatrical jurisprudence, and her book Towards a Theatrical Jurisprudence (2019) has been influential in the development of new scholarship in the field. She continues to write and mentor young scholars in the field, and has been invited to participate in new work across law and jurisprudence and into related humanities fields of scholarship, including collections to be published in The Netherlands and Belgium in 2023, and with Dr Sean Mulcahy, a special issue of the journal Law Text Culture published in 2021, called Performing Theatrical Jurisprudence.

Marett was one of the founders of the Law Literature and Humanities Association of Australasia, and in 2021, along with the luminaries Professor Emeritus Margaret Thornton and Professor William MacNeil, was honoured with the election as Honorary Member of the Association in 2021 for her work in the field, and she continues to participate in and lead in the fields of Law and Humanities and Cultural Legal Studies, along with her pathbreaking work in theatrical jurisprudence. She continues to be approached to contribute to discussions across her areas of interest, including her previous research areas of cultural heritage and cultural property law and law and the arts.
