RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research is in the areas of image and signal processing, pattern recognition, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. I focus on developing new algorithms and systems to solve strategic and practical problems in defence, security, healthcare, and industry.
I have published over 140 Scopus-listed papers (including 47 journal papers). Several publications appear in high-impact journals and conferences, including IEEE Trans. Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE. Trans. Image Processing, IEEE Trans. Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, Pattern Recognition, Artificial Intelligence Review, IEEE. Trans. Signal Processing, IEEE Trans. Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Trans. Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, and International Conference on Computer Vision. My papers have received over 3,360 Scopus citations (h-index: 28), and 5800 Google Scholar citations (h-index: 34).
Among several research projects, my team and I are currently developing algorithms and systems for assistive navigation of vision-impaired people, camouflage pattern generation, satellite imaging for vessel and ocean monitoring, drone image processing for agriculture and environments, road infrastructure monitoring, big crowd analytics, and through-wall radar imaging. I am mentoring a group of highly motivated, diligent, and capable research students at the Centre for Signal and Information Processing (CSIP).
I have served as an Associate Editor for two international journals, a Conference Organising Committee member for five international conferences, and a peer reviewer for numerous high-impact journals/conferences.
Potential Supervision Topics:
- image, video, and signal processing
- assistive navigation for vision-impaired people, autonomous navigation, self-driving cars
