BIO

Dr Kerrylee Rogers is a Professor of Environmental Science in the School of Science at the University of Wollongong and is the Director of the Environmental Futures Research Centre, which seeks to generate knowledge to address the triple planetary crises of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss. Dr Rogers research focusses on coastal vulnerability to climate change, adaptation to climate change, and opportunities for mitigating climate change through improving restoration, conservation and management of coastal ecosystems, including mangrove forests and saltmarshes. She is particularly concerned about the resilience of coastal wetlands to anthropogenic pressures from global warming, sea-level rise and drainage. Dr Rogers led the first global study demonstrating links between carbon storage/sequestration and sea level in saltmarshes, demonstrating i) sea-level history over the past few millennia is an important control on carbon storage and ii) anticipated sea-level rise will influence both carbon sequestration and their survival. Dr Rogers research has contributed to multiple global studies that have expended upon this foundational work, and she is joint coordinator of the largest network of monitoring equipment in coastal wetlands of Australia. Dr Rogers supports knowledge sharing, and is actively engaged in supervising the next generation of coastal scientists and has led an IAEA regional cooperation project in the Asia-Pacific region focused on coastal wetland adaptation to sea-level rise.
