RESEARCH INTERESTS
I lead a research group at the University of Wollongong dedicated to investigating the underlying neurobiology of psychiatric illnesses (primarily schizophrenia and depression) using pharmacological, neurochemical and neuropathological approaches. I work closely with human brain banks in Australia and USA to facilitate this research. I also have expertise in design and use of rodent models to examine molecular changes associated with these disorders and their treatments, particularly in the context of neurodevelopment. I have designed and led projects that have made significant contributions to research into the role of glutamate neurotransmission in psychiatric illness. My research also has broader impact outside psychiatry e.g. neurodevelopment.
