BIO
James Cayley is an Early Career Researcher at the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics within the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Wollongong. As an experimental physicist focused on the transport and measurement of radiation, his work focuses on novel methods to improve the standard of care and treatment outcomes for cancer patients.
He has collaborated with scientists at the ANSTO Australian Synchrotron to develop and commission the Pulsed Energetic Electrons for Research (PEER) facility, a very high-energy electron (VHEE) research beamline. This pioneering work delivered the only facility of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, one of only five comparable facilities globally. He leads an international collaboration between researchers in Australia and Germany to advance knowledge and bring VHEE technology to patients.
Currently, he is also managing a Cooperative Research Centre Project to develop a novel implantable radiotherapy device, and contributing to a spectral CT imaging project developing next generation technologies for treatment optimisation.
