Admitted as Solicitor in NSW Supreme, Federal, & High Court of Australia
Unrestricted Principal Legal Practitioner NSW.
Mr Abelas has served as sessional lecturer at UOW since 2010 with the School of law, principally in Revenue/Taxation Law, and also across Contracts, Torts, Corporations, Remedies & Procedure, Advanced Legal Skills, Legal Ethics, and several postgraduate subjects. As a practising NSW Solicitor, with many years experience as principal of a legal practice across several jurisdictions in Courts and Tribunals of NSW Australia, his students report an engaged learning process under his instruction characterised by a unique blend of academic rigour and practical utility.
Outside of the law, he has extensive experience and involvement in Global Financial Markets, derivatives trading and funds management, at both an institutional level and privately. He also has a lifetime involvement in all facets of Building & Construction in both residential and commercial projects.
Areas of legal expertise include: Revenue/Taxation Law, Building and Construction Law, Family Law, Wills & Estates, Litigation, Courts & Tribunals, Financial Markets.
Mr Abelas' career has spanned a multitude of roles with the Australian Securities & Investments Commission, Ernst & Young, Commonwealth Bank Global Markets & Institutional Banking, legal practices in Sydney's CBD, multiple roles in private enterprise his own practice Sydney Attorneys and as sessional academic staff with the University of Wollongong.
As a stalwart supporter of the Illawarra and UOW he also has a long historic association with UOW, being a native of Keiraville, having studied law under the tutelage of the founding members of UOW Law School and as an original member of the late Liz Hilton’s raiders UOW student recruiting team of the 1990s.
