Dr Glen Wheeler currently serves as Associate Head (Mathematics and Statistics) in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Wollongong. He has held extended terms as Chair of the School Education Committee (2016–2021, 2024–2025), and has played a leading role in curriculum reform, quality assurance, and portfolio renewal across the mathematical sciences. In 2025 he also served as Acting Head of School during key planning periods, contributing to school-level staffing, workload, and operational decisions. This leadership helped shape the substantial mathematics curriculum revision introduced for Autumn 2026, later commended internally as a major achievement in consolidating the mathematics streams and strengthening the long-term viability of the discipline.

At UOW, his service has consistently linked educational strategy to institution-building. He has chaired major curriculum review and implementation work, contributed to academic program leadership, and supported university-level initiatives connected with student retention, work-integrated learning, and curriculum development. Across these roles, his focus has been to build programs that are intellectually ambitious, coherent, attractive to students, and sustainable over the long term, while strengthening links between mathematics and the wider University.

His professional service extends well beyond UOW. He serves as New South Wales representative on the Executive Committee of the Australian Association of von Humboldt Fellows and, from 2025, on the Council of the Australian Mathematical Society. He also contributes to international research leadership through editorial-board service for the Journal of Evolution Equations and the Bulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society, through the Australian Geometric PDE Seminar and the Geometric Analysis Zulip Server, and through the organisation of MATRIX research programs and workshops in geometric analysis and PDE.
