BIO

Dr Gabrielle O'Flynn is a Senior Lecturer of Irish & English descent living on Wodi Wodi Country. Her research adopts qualitative methods to explore how meanings of health are formed in curriculum & in people’s lives. Throughout her academic career, Gabrielle has examined the ways school contexts, curriculum documents, health websites, government health campaigns, teachers and pre-service teachers, materially-discursively produce meanings of health, bodies, obesity, physical activity, risk and criticality.

Gabrielle’s recent work focuses on learning from Country as teacher & methodology. Working with A/Prof Anthony McKnight & in partnership with Aboriginal communities, she uses relational, strengths-based approaches to examine care & wellbeing through a two-way knowledge approach. In the Strong Culture, Healthy Lifestyles project, Gabrielle explored Aboriginal children’s photos & stories to capture their connections with Country & culture through an after-school cultural program. Her research also investigates how learning and connecting with Country can reshape understandings of care & wellbeing within HPE & workplace EDI.

Gabrielle is committed to research that contributes to decolonising health education, promotes social justice & deepens relationships with Country.
