Professor Fran Collyer is a sociologist of knowledge, having published widely in this field and the history of sociology. The sociology of health and medicine is an additional field of interest. Professor Collyer is President of the RC08 History of Sociology committee, and managing editor of Serendipities, the journal of the history of sociology. Prior to the University of Wollongong, Fran Collyer was Professor of Sociology in Sweden and the University of Sydney. Recent books include Knowledge and Global Power (2019, with Raewyn Connell, Joao Maia and Robert Morrell); Navigating Private and Public Healthcare (2020, with Karen Willis); and The Palgrave Handbook of Social Theory in Health, Illness and Medicine (2023, Chinese edition; 2015 English edition). She is currently writing several books, the first on the sociology of knowledge, a second on Bourdieu and Health Research, and a third on the history of Australian sociology. The latter was the subject of a large ARC grant, and the data, comprised primarily of 190 qualitative life history interviews, is still under analysis.
