BIO

Dr Erin Twyford (CA) is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the University of Wollongong.

Dr. Twyford's research interests delve into the complex interplay between the State, business, and accounting practices and their profound impact on society. Her focus on accounting history and critical accounting theory is particularly noteworthy. Her PhD thesis explored the use of thanatopolitics and accounting during the Holocaust. Her work has been recognised with prestigious awards, including The Robert W. Gibson Manuscript Award (Runner-up), The Mary Parker Follet Award for Most Outstanding Paper (Highly Commended), and twice awarded the Best Paper Award from the Australasian Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting.

Dr. Twyford's expertise extends beyond the academic realm. Her insights have been sought after for numerous parliamentary inquiries, and she has been a key contributor to government policy recommendations and national and international media discussions on the role of consultants and accountability. Her opinions have been featured in esteemed outlets such as the Australian Financial Review, The Guardian, and the ABC. This wide-reaching influence is a testament to the relevance and impact of her work. Prior to academia, she worked for organisations such as Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and IMB Bank.


In 2024, Erin's dedication to teaching was recognised nationally, awarded an Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) citation after winning an Outstanding Contribution to Teaching and Learning award in 2023 for inspiring student learning through a passion for innovative work-integrated experiences in inclusive environments that bridge academia and industry. Erin teaches financial accounting and taxation to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

 

Erin currently serves as Reviews Editor for the Social and Environmental Accountability Journal and as an Editorial Board member of Critical Perspectives on Accounting and Accounting Education. She is also serving as Guest Editor for Accounting History Journal for a special issue on 'Accounting and Totalitarianism in an Historical Perspective'.
