I am an Associate Professor in the School of Education at UOW. My focus in literacy education has been a defining characteristic of my career, beginning from my experience teaching EAL/D in senior secondary education. I have experience teaching in NSW high schools, engaging in consultancy in schools, delivering professional development for teachers, working collaboratively with teachers in research and in lecturing and research at the tertiary level.

I am particularly motivated by the challenge of ensuring equal access and equitable educational outcomes for all students. This concern has defined my professional and research trajectory. As students need increasingly advanced literacy skills to succeed throughout their years of schooling, my research focuses on what students need to know and be able to do to access and display learning in their subjects, and what teachers need to know and be able to do in order to support students in their learning.
