Dr Emily Yap is a Research Fellow at the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre, University of Wollongong. Her work focuses on digital approaches to energy flexibility and decarbonisation across buildings and land-based industries, applying IoT, digital twins, and immersive visualisation technologies (VR/AR) to monitor and optimise energy use.

Her career has evolved from materials science and sensing systems into applied research that connects real-time data capture with interactive modelling and decision-support tools. This cross-sector experience enables her to build adaptable solutions across diverse environments. Emily is also a co-founder of the Women’s Research Engineers Network (WREN), promoting equity and diversity in engineering and research.
