Significant contributions include: (i) design and development of several chemical and physical method to fabricate morphology-controllable nanocrystals and nanostructures which can be used in applications ranged from energy storage to photonics; (2) exploration of 2D functional materials for (electo)photocatalytic applications in hydrogen production and pollution elimination; (3) design and development of 2D quantum matters by using MBE, scanning tunneling microscopy, and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy; and (4) development of smart functional liquid metal for superconducting and microelectronic applications.
Besides these experiences, I have developed instrumental techniques for nanoscale characterizations over the past years. These include low-temperature near-field Raman spectroscopy, in-situ MBE evaporator, SPM feedback controller and high magnetic field STM.
The research program leader in ISEM/AIIM at the University of Wollongong, and manage cutting-edge research in materials science, physics, chemistry, energy and nanotechnology by using high magnetic field STM and four-probe STM systems. In my role, I am fully responsible for research, research collaboration, facility management and supervision of PhD students.
My research work is in the field of materials, physics, chemistry, and nanotechnology. My expertise covers molecular beam epitaxial deposition, scanning tunneling microscopy, atomic force microscopy, tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy.
