Research Overview

  • Senior Lecturer in Geology at the University of Wollongong with over 25 years of experience in mineral exploration. Study the fundamental tectonic forces that shape Earth and concentrate mineral and energy resources. Specialize in subduction complex rocks and associated ore deposits including porphyry and epithermal copper and gold systems. Completed a PhD at the University of Hong Kong investigating the tectonic and metallogenic evolution of remote area in West Junggar, Xinjiang Provence, northwest China. Managed exploration programs in the Yilgarn, Lachlan, New England and Mt Isa Blocks and published extensively on the tectonic-metallogenic evolution of orogens across the globe. Generated, supervised and managed 34 honours, 2 Masters and 8 PhD student projects and have extensive experience of metallogenic systems in eastern and western Australia, Chile, Central Asia and the Zagros and Himalayan orogens.

Spent 6 field seasons mapping and sampling in Ladakh Himalaya to understand where and when collision between India and Eurasia occurred.

Have interests in Quaternary stratigraphy and palaeofire (charcoal) records in Australia. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-021-22451-2
