Pedram, Shiva

Associate Research Fellow

Overview

Shiva is an engineer and an early career researcher with a PhD in Computing and Information Technology. She has received her PhD in 2018 from University of Wollongong funded by SMART Scholarship and she holds a master’s degree, in Engineering Management, from University of Wollongong.

Shiva’s expertise is in User Experience (UX) and during her PhD focused on the impact of utilizing advance technologies such as virtual reality to train mines rescue brigades for dangerous and catastrophe situations. The outcome of her study have improved the quality of the training for mining industry by analyzing various aspects of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Human and technology factors. She developed predictive and explanatory models to predict and explain the relationship between different factors. The generic frameworks she developed serve as a decision making tool to enhance the training strategy of the industry as a whole and aid managers in their decision making process. Her areas of expertise include strategy management, innovation and design management, virtual reality environments, simulation and modelling and data analysis.

Along with having experience as test engineer and simulation software operator, she has been teaching and tutoring several management, computer networking, telecommunication engineering, and simulation subjects within the University of Wollongong.
