Sharna Wiblen is a Lecturer in Management who is promoting responsible talent management whereby decisions and actions are intentional, deliberate and informed. Sharna’s academic research relates to the boundaries between talent and various information and HR technologies and HR Analytics with a focus on instigating, contributing to, and shaping informed conversations that unpack the complexity of talent concepts, genuine talent management, and future leader talent identification. Over the past decade, Sharna has focused on generating knowledge about how organizations deploy technological capabilities within various talent management practices and the extent to which decisions are based on analytics. Sharna frequently comments on contemporary and futuristic technological innovations, and the implications for digitalised talent management through various forums, including her blog Talk about Talent (www.talkabouttalent.com), LinkedIn, public commentaries and Twitter.
Before establishing herself as an internationally renowned talent management and technology scholar, she amassed over 15 years’ industry experience as a management consultant, project manager, services and supply chain manager and combines academic and methodological rigour to advise business and nonprofit enterprises about the challenges associated with enacting strategically aligned talent management and supply chain policies and practices.
Sharna recently co-authored Talent Management: A Research Overview (Routledge, UK) with Anthony McDonnell and is Editor of Digitalised Talent Management: Navigating the Human-Technology Interface (Routledge, US).
Sharna’s research also features in Journal of Strategic Information Systems; The International Journal of Human Resource Management; Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources; Encyclopedia of Electronic Human Resource Management (De Gruyter); HRM 4.0 for Human-Centred Organizations (Emerald); Companion to Talent Management (Routledge); e-HRM; Digital Approaches, Directions and Applications (Routledge); and Macro Talent Management: A Global Perspective on Managing Talent in Developed Markets (Routledge). This complements her emerging peer-review publication and conference presentation records.
Sharna is passionate about teaching and the processes of learning and treasures the opportunity to positively influence the experiences of all her students. She has extensive experience in teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and honors levels, including the design, development, and coordination of various courses. In addition to receiving above average student feedback, she has been the recipient of 14 teaching and learning awards.
Sharna's passion for knowledge and critical thinking is combined with over 15 years of industry experience having worked as a management consultant, human resource and recruitment coordinator and retail service manager.
