Overview


Sandy Suardi is a Professor at the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance. His research focuses on issues at the intersection of economics and finance. His works have been published in both economics and finance journals. In finance, he has published in the Journal of Money Credit and Banking, Journal of Empirical Finance, Quantitative Finance,  Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Emerging Markets Review, Financial Review, and others. In economics, he has published in Regional Studies, Energy Economics, British Journal of Industrial Relations, Economic Inquiry, World Development, and Economics Letters, amongst others. His research has been cited in a senate inquiry and by academics, practitioners and the media. He completed his PhD in economics at the University of Melbourne in 2005. Prior to joining the University of Wollongong, he was employed at the University of Queensland (2005-2007) and La Trobe University (2008-2014).

Research Overview


  • Sandy's research interests are in financial economics and applied macroeconomics. Presently, a number of his research projects are concerned with the role of financial intermediation. The first project centers on asset price boom (specifically housing price boom) and its effect on bank lending behavior and investment allocation. Another project concerns bank lines of credit and their use as an instrument of corporate liquidity management, particularly in the context of improving firms' investment efficiency.
