SITE CHARACTERIZATION BY GEOSTATISTICS.

Conference Paper

Abstract

  • The authors have examined and demonstrated the applicability of geostatistics in geotechnical site characterization. Many geotechnical characteristics and subsurface conditions can be modelled by application of geostatistics methodology in conjunction with a site investigation comprising sampling locations spaced at regular intervals. Geostatistics holds great potential to provide practical methods of quantifying geotechnical variability and uncertainty, as well as characterizing a site for prediction of geotechnical performance. The basic tool of geostatistics is the variogram function which depicts the spatial correlation of the characteristics of adjoining samples.
