RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ROCK COMPETENCY AND CONVERGENCE ON LONGWALL FACELINES.

Conference Paper

Abstract

  • This paper discusses the influence of changing rock competency on convergence in the central faceline zone. Results from case studies conducted at various collieries in N. S. W. (Australia) and Scotland are presented. Comparison is made by relating the massive sandstone structures of N. S. W. with the less competent shales of Scotland. Convergence was not only related to rock competency - various other factors were taken into account, such as: the effect of powered support resistance, height of extraction and depth of cover.
