USE OF ZIRCONIA-BASED SOLID ELECTROLYTES FOR THE RAPID DETERMINATION OF IRON OXIDE ACTIVITIES IN IRON- AND STEEL-MAKING SLAGS.

Abstract


  • The reliability of the cell was confirmed by agreement between the standard free energy of formation of liquid Fe//xO obtained and those reported in the literature. The Fe//xO activities were determined in Fe//xO-CaO and Fe//xO-SiO//2 slags at 1673 K. The experimental technique was extended to measurement of Fe//xO activities in the complex slags that are used for the external desiliconization of the hot metal product of the blast furnace.
