An investigation of stress fields in wheat grains, using photo-elastic and numerical techniques

Abstract


  • Presented in this paper is a method which allows the determination of stress fields within complex shapes such as are found with agricultural materials; for the purposes of demonstration the loaded wheat grain has been chosen for detailed analysis. By employing photo-elastic and numerical techniques it is possible to obtain quantitative results which show the distribution of stress within a cross-section of a loaded grain. © 1969.
