Transfer chutes engineered for reliable performance

Abstract


  • Transfer chutes generally form a series link in the bulk materials handling chain of many operations. When the chutes are the weak links and fail to perform then the lack of attention they received at the plant design stage shows up as a significant false economy. Recent research at the University of Wollongong has highlighted that transfer chutes can be designed to perform reliably provided due consideration is given to such matters as the conflicting requirements of flow and wear the trajectory of the material flow the design of impact plates the design of dribble chutes the maintenance requirements. This paper addresses these matters as well as propose a novel chute arrangement which avoids many of the problems normally associated with conventional transfer chutes.
