A practical mixed Mode II/III fatigue test rig

Abstract


  • A practical test rig has been developed for the fatigue testing of notched steel specimens subject to any combination of Mode II and Mode III loading. Finite element analysis was used to perform a compliance calibration of the test-piece under the four-point loading conditions applied by the rig. The effectiveness of the rig is demonstrated through successful Mode II and Mode III fatigue tests conducted on mild steel specimens. © 1987.
