A Permian brachiopod fauna from beds at the Nam Loong No. 1 Mine of Kinta Valley west of Kampar, Perak, west Malaysia is described. New taxa are Schizophoria kintaensis n. sp., Stictozoster lata n. sp., Kintathyris malayaensis n. gen. n. sp., and Brachythyrina gobbetti n. sp. The brachiopods indicate possible Sterlitamakian age of the Sakmarian Stage (Early Permian). Correlations with Thailand, Pamirs, Timor, Australia, and the Urals are discussed. It is also pointed out that the brachiopod provinciality of the Shan-Thai terrane changed rapidly in Early Permian from southern cold temperate to subtropical zone, probably implying either a rapid northward drift of the terrane or a rapid shift of climatic zone during the Early Permian times. © 1991.
