The peritectic phase transition of steel during the initial stages of solidification in the mold

Abstract


  • In order to better understand and explain industrial observations with respect to uneven solidification in steels of peritectic composition, a concentric solidification technique was employed using a high-temperature laser-scanning confocal microscope to observe solidification and subsequent phase transformation in-situ. By integrating the results with in-plant observations, new insights of practical significance have been obtained.
