Differential displacement measurement system using laser self-mixing interference effect

Abstract


  • A differential displacement measurement system using the self-mixing interference effect in a laser diode was put forward here, and a mathematical model describing the system operation was also established. The results from both computer simulation and experiment showed that the displacement resolution of the system reaches 1/4 wavelength which is about two times of that of conventional single laser diode system; besides, the disturbance of temperature and noise (caused by the feedback light intensity) can be significantly reduced.
