Firedamp drainage optimization using geotechnical and CFD modelling techniques

Abstract


  • A computer modelling approach which used geotechnical and computational fluid dynamics techniques was developed for the optimization of firedamp drainage technology. The approach allowed simulation of the dynamic nature of stress/methane flow fields around a modern longwall face, and evaluation of the effectiveness of a drainage system at operational and design stage. The approach could be used for prediction of gas migration from adjacent areas such as old workings/abandoned mines into a working face.
