Removal of hard metallic and non-metallic aerospace coatings with high-frequency forced pulsed waterjet machine

Abstract


  • During the past several years forced pulsed waterjet (FPWJ) has been successfully used for several industrial applications. Recently, extensive work has been conducted with the FPWJ on the removal of hard metallic and non-metallic coatings, profusely used in the aerospace and other industries. The requirements for surface finish, unlike the marine industry where a specific profile is achieved by erosion, are quite stringent. For instance, the erosion of the substrate must not exceed a certain limit. The results obtained with the FPWJ clearly indicate that it not only satisfies these requirements but emerges as a preferred method for surface preparation. © BHR Group 2006 Water Jetting.
