Effects of controlled elastic deformation on the performance of hydrodynamic bearings

Abstract


  • A complete thermo-elasto-hydrodynamic analysis of an undercut inlet of thrust and journal bearing is presented whereby elastic deflection is introduced to a certain area of the bearing surface. The controlled elastic deflection increases significantly the bearing load carrying capacity.
