The study of multi-material systems under dynamic loads is a research area with widespread interest. The present study investigates the dynamic response of a multi-metallic system by considering the propagation of stress waves, generated due to an impact event. This system was designed by placing materials in the reducing order of their impedance. Experiments were carried out using a single-stage gas gun setup. Numerical models were developed using the non-linear finite element code LS-DYNA and were validated using the results from the experiments. The results from this study highlighted the potential of the multi-metallic system in reducing the magnitude of transmitted stress waves.
