Evaluating the use of worked examples and problem solving methods in teaching mathematics to ESL students at the tertiary level

Abstract


  • This study presents an overview of the opinions of thirty students selected from the Advanced

    Mathematics course at the University of Wollongong College (UOWC). The students were asked

    to evaluate the effectiveness of the various teaching methods employed by their educators in

    teaching them mathematics in English, whilst they are studying English as a second language

    (ESL) .The results indicate there are differences between the perceived effectiveness of worked

    examples and problem solving methods.
