Abstract


  • A review essay of Giovanni Arrighi's new book Adam Smith in Beijing. The book posits that the rise of

    China and the failure of the Project for a New American Century may herald the onset of what he labels Adam Smith vision of 'mature' capitalism, a world where one or more major powers or empires will no longer have the ability to determine outcomes for other states; a world where independent nations will respect each other's rights (5).
