Responsible Machiavellian Leadership: A Relational Perspective

Conference Paper

Abstract

  • This paper proposes a novel research agenda to study Machiavellian leadership through the relational leadership approach, to highlight the lesser researched responsible facets. Through a review of the leadership literature from an entity perspective (leaderoriented research) and relational leadership perspective (leadership-oriented research), we examine possible constraints and opportunities presented to current and future research in Machiavellian leadership. We propose a case for Relational Machiavellian Leadership and explain how the relational approach to studying leadership could advance the theory and practice of Machiavellian leadership in particular, and leadership in general.
