Mapping Fit: Maximizing Idiographic and Nomothetic Benefits

Chapter

Abstract

  • In this chapter we have argued that the collection of data should be separated from the manner in which they are analyzed. Doing so allows researchers to achieve different goals. Perhaps the most interesting of these for a book entitled Organizational Fit: Key Issues and New Directions is the combination of idiographic data gathering and nomothetic analysis. This approach may provide fit researchers with an avenue to find new theory, new propositions, and new hypotheses.
