A visible light transmitting BODIPY derivative with an emission peak at 604 nm and quantum yield of 64% is incorporated into a PMMA matrix, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing luminescent solar concentrator (LSC), suitable for “power window” applications. A Monte Carlo modeling platform is shown to be useful firstly to tune device performance, but also to give direction to future synthetic efforts. From this an 4 mm thick LSC of (100 × 100 mm) is shown to have optical efficiency of ≈3.3%.
