Performance analysis of symmetric and asymmetric multilevel converters

Abstract


  • Multilevel inverters have become very popular for high-power applications, such as wind, solar, marine propulsion, train traction, flexible ac transmission systems (FACTS) and high voltage dc (HVDC) transmission. Different multilevel inverter topologies are developed with time. To improve the system efficiency, it's very important to find out the performance of the inverters like total harmonic distortion (THD) in the output voltage waveform and converter losses. This paper analyzes the performance of different symmetric and asymmetric multilevel converters in terms of THD and inverter losses.
