Overview


My academic background has been in the areas of free radical chemistry, magnetic resonance methods and, more recently, mass spectrometry.

During a 26-year career with BHP Research and BlueScope Steel Research I was able to apply these skills to a wide range of applications including minerals processing, production technology, surface coatings science (including durability and testing) and sunscreen science.

Since moving to UoW I have been active in collaborations with local surface coatings companies (developing new coatings for wind-turbine blades, protective coatings for printed signage and functional coatings) and I work on a Global Challenges Project developing new sunscreens for the harsh Australian conditions.

My current interests are: inorganic photochemistry and photocatalysis studied by EPR spectroscopy; curing surface coatings using LED technology; fungal infestation of surfaces and phototoxicology of nanoparticles.
