Dr Karen Fildes was appointed as Lecturer in Medical Science in the Graduate School of Medicine (GSM) in 2013. Prior to this, Karen worked as a lecturer from 2009 in the School of Biological Science, UOW, teaching undergraduate physiology, biochemistry and cell biology. She has a keen interest in medical education research and together with Scott Winch, in Indigenous health curriculum development.
Karen is a member of the Medical Science team and is located at both the Shoalhaven Campus and the Wollongong Campus. She lectures in metabolic biochemistry, cell biology and is the block co-ordinator for the Introduction to Medicine block in Phase 1 of the medical course. Since joining Graduate Medicine, together with Dr Michelle Moscova and Dr Teresa Treweek, Karen has made substantial contributions to blended learning in the school through the design and development of interactive online learning modules to accompany active learning in lectures.
