Overview


Hironori Onuki is an international political economy scholar who focuses on the issues of global labour migration. He joined the University of Wollongong in 2014. Prior to this appointment, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Political Science at York University (Toronto, Canada). He has taught at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Canada, Japan, and the Philippines.

  • Hironori’s research interests lie in the areas of international political economy, global labour migration, gender relations, and human as well as national security, with special reference to the Asia-Pacific region. Focusing on the contexts of Japan and the Philippines, his doctoral research explored comparatively how policies regarding migration and labour markets in both the sending and receiving states shape and are shaped by the political contestation and political agency of migrant workers.
