Overview


Shi Xue Dou is Research Ambassador China for UOW and Distinguished Professor of the Institute for Superconducting and Electronic Materials (ISEM) at Australian Institute of Innovative Materials, University of Wollongong. He was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering in 1994. He was awarded a PhD by Dalhousie University, Canada in 1984 and a DSc by the University of New South Wales in 1998 and three Australian Professorial Fellowships by Australian Research Council in 1993, 2002 and 2007. He received the Australian Government’s Centenary Medal in 2003, the Engineering Excellence Award highly commended in 2006, finalist of Eureka Award for Science Leadership in 2010 and finalist of Eureka Award for mentoring in 2013, Vice-Chancellors Senior Excellence Award in 2008, Vice-Chancellor Outstanding Partnership Award in 2012, Life Achievement award from ASTS in 2018 and Australian Order of Member (AM) in 2019. He is program leader for ongoing Automotive CRC 2020 and ARENA Smart Sodium Storage System program. He has supervised and co-supervised more than 100 PhD students to completion and more than 60 postdoctoral and visiting fellow who have been widely spread within five continents. .He is highly cited researcher named by Thomson Reuters with citations of 41000 and h-index 94.

  • Shi Xue Dou is  Distingiushed Professor of the Institute for Superconducting and Electronic Materials at the University of Wollongong. He is one of the most influential scientists in energy materials research in the world, and has an unparalleled reputation and scientific track-record in this highly-competitive field. He has been proactive in promoting collaborations – uniting industry, national and international institutions – and has played a pivotal leadship role in the materials science community. He has focussed his research on superconductivity, electronic and energy storage materials, as well as the application of innovative nanomaterials and technology for commercialisation and industry transformation. Through his guidance, his team has made significant advances and breakthroughs in the field of superconductivity and energy materials. His pioneering work in this field has made a significant and sustained impact on both the scientific community and industry. His team contributed 46% research outputs in the superconductor area in Australia and Dou personally is ranked first in the world in research outputs in magnesium diboride superconductor, an area in which he is responsible for 75% of Australia’s total citations. UOW is responsible for 40% of the Australian research outputs and 45% of the Australian citations in the sodium/lithium-ion battery research fields.
