Abstract


  • The primary aim of this proposal is to purchase a cryogen-free 15 T magnet which would enable the processing of various advanced materials under high magnetic fields. Magnetic field processing technology applied during fabrication processes has significant influence on the phase equilibrium and transformation, solidification, recrystallisation, crystalline refinement, as well as kinetics and diffusion mechanisms of a wide range of materials. The technique promises to open new avenues in nonferrous and ferrous metallurgy, ceramic, superconducting, spintronic and other functional materials for both fundamental and applied research which is considered a flagship and priority area in Australia.`
