This proposal will establish state of the art protein crystallographic data collection facilities at UNSW with a complementary protein crystallisation instrumentation at U. Newcastle. These facilities will allow protein scientists in the region to determine protein structures from small protein crystals (70 micron), thus increasing structural potential, especially for difficult projects such as membrane proteins and large macromolecular complexes. The facilities will enhance the effectiveness of recent investments in robotics for automated protein crystallisation at UNSW. The increased activity will flow on to the Australian synchrotron, resulting in large structural projects being solved within Australia.
