Grant

Scheme

  • Linkage International

Abstract

  • One of the main foci of current public health discourse is on the relationship between childhood inactivity, young peopleâ¬"s diets, and a putative steep rise in obesity. This focus drives major policy initiatives on health, and schools in particular have been targeted. The purpose of the project is to identify how prevailing attitudes and practices relating to â¬Üobesityâ¬", food, physical activity and health are embedded in school policy and reflected in the curriculum, actions and attitudes of teachers. It will examine how this in turn impacts on children and young peopleâ¬"s understandings of health and their well-being. The study will inform health policy and practice in schools and in the wider community.
