Abstract


  • This project aims to investigate the neural substrates of learning and memory deficits in cannabis users by means of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). In particular, strategy utilisation in learning and recall will be examined in relation to varying parameters of cannabis use. It is hypothesised that cannabis users will initiate mnemonic strategies to a lesser degree than controls and have more difficulty implementing instructed strategies. It is further hypothesised that there will be differential impairments in strategy utilisation and memory function according to the frequency versus duration of cannabis use, with duration of cannabis use impacting more severely on neural systems subserving elaborative strategies.
