Abstract


  • The proposed project is to investigate approaches which can help to parallelize common Web search engine methods. This is to overcome some of the major bottlenecks with current Web search engine designs. Questions which will be answered in this project are: (a) Can the Web be partitioned in such a way to allow the computation of Web-page importance on sub-sets of the Web? (b) What possibilities exist to parallelize the computation of Web-page importance, and how can the computed values be fused so that a reasonably accurate global representation of Web page importances is obtained? (c) How well do suitable parallel methods scale with the size of the Web?
