Abstract


  • Lubrication has been applied in hot strip rolling with significant cost savings in reduced rolling force, reduced roll wear and increased productivity. However they have been applied on a trial and error basis for a specific plant mainly because the mechanics of contact in the interface is not well understood, and the oxide scale of strip/roll and roll wear that affect the final strip quality have not been all together investigated. This project will result in a model that can describe more accurately the contact mechanics of the interface in hot rolling involving oxide scales of strip and roll, lubrication and how they affect roll wear and strip quality.
