2nd Young Professionals Conference on Transportation Infrastructure: Research and Development Perspective

Grant

Scheme

  • NSW Research Attraction and Acceleration Program

Abstract

  • The 2nd International Conference on Transport Infrastructure will aim to showcase the recent research and practice advancements made by young researchers, postgraduate students and industry professionals in the critical area of transport infrastructure. The development of Innovative and sustainable infrastructure for transport is of critical importance to Australia┬┐s future prosperity. In Australia, rapid urbanisation and associated infrastructure development have compelled civil engineers to use most of the Australian coastal belt that contains soft estuarine clay deposits. The stability of foundations for most transport infrastructure is often influenced by excessive settlement, low bearing capacity and high lateral displacement of soft soils subjected to dynamic loads. The limited capacity of current transportation infrastructure in many parts of Australia to support passenger mobility and increased efficiency for freight (agriculture and mining sectors) together with the large performance shortfalls observed for infrastructure built on very soft soil sediments is of great concern. In this context, the launch of the 2nd International Young Professionals Conference on Transport and Infrastructure is most appropriate and timely This conference will focus on the current challenges associated with transport infrastructure development and will act as a platform to disseminate the most recent research and field advances to the engineering community. Presentations from young leading experts, professionals, and industry specialists will showcase technical advances and past experience related to infrastructure reliability. Invited lectures from world renowned experts in transport infrastructure will add value to the technical skills of the young professionals. The conference will act as a platform for young delegates to share the issues, knowledge transfer and to learn impact of emerging technologies. The topics covered in the conference will be focussed on the future directions for transport infrastructure in terms of design, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation. It will showcase a range of technical themes including:1) Ground-structure interaction of pavements, railway tracks, airfields, port and harbour facilities; underground structures (tunnels);2) Structural and geotechnical design of transport infrastructure;3) Advanced laboratory testing and in-situ testing used for transportation infrastructure;4) Long-term performance
