Abstract


  • Roll bite lubrication is widely applied in hot strip rolling around the world, but mainly on a trial-and-error basis. The lubrication mechanics at the elevated temperature are not fully understood, which makes a quantitative estimate of friction, lubricant film thickness and roll wear difficult. Through an integrated approach involving advanced computational modelling and experiments, the project will provide the fundamentals of lubrication mechanics and tribology in hot rolling based on multi physics and multi scale phenomena occurring at the strip and roll interface.
